PRCA Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association 800-234-7722 Legend has it that rodeo was born on July 4, 1869 when two groups of cowboys from neighboring ranches met in Deer Trail, CO, to settle an argument over who was the best at performing everyday ranching tasks. That competition is considered to be the first rodeo which evolved into rodeo as we know it today.
Today's professional rodeo cowboy is a bit different from his 1800s predecessor, but the ideals and showmanship and hard work are still valued by today's competitors. A cowboy's standing in the rodeo community is still dependent on his skill with a rope or his ability to ride a bucking animal. The cowboy code still dictates that a cowboy ought to help his fellow competitors, even though they might be competing for the same paycheck. The Foundation Quarter Horse Registry Vicki & Bill Austin PO Box 165 Vicksburg, MI 49097 (269) 649-1106 The purpose of the Foundation Quarter Horse Registry is to preserve, protect, and perpetuate the working cow horse bloodlines of the Foundation Quarter Horse by the individuals that the FQHR deems as Foundation bred. The Registry is based on blood.
The American Quarter Horse Association was organized in 1940 with similar intent. Therefore the Foundation Quarter Horse Registry recognizes those horses listed in the first five studbooks (first 27,000 horses registered) as Foundation bred.
Most individuals carrying 75% Foundation blood are eligible for registration. The fourth generation is critical (great grand sires and great grand dams), of that generation 75% should descend from or run to Foundation blood. No registered thoroughbred may be closer than the fourth generation.
It is the aim of the Registry to keep regulation simple and easy. The Friesian Horse Society, Inc.
